Budget Hero

For those of you concerned about the future (eg. whether Mr. Decker and I will be comfortable in retirement) click on the Budget Hero link and solve our nation's financial dilemma. You get to chose what is important, how you wish to spend our tax dollars, and what you wish to do to taxes. Make some important decisions about the US and see the impact it has on our budget. Be sure and respond with how successful you were at balancing the books and what you had to do to Mr. Decker's health care, my Social Security and our grandchildren's education to do it though.

Enjoy,
Mr. Thompson

Apparently, according to the end report, I was successful in that I delayed the "budget bust" by 7 years (from 2031 to 2038). However, this is only relative success because the budget still did bust and in order to delay it I basically just went through slashing big ticket items in our budget. Some of these include bringing home the troops (very soon), cutting foreign aid and freezing Medicare payments. I also had to adjust our nation's dealings with Social Security but the final report card did not list it as one of my "biggest cards." It seems there is no way out no matter how many programs we cut.

When I played the game, I reduced the national debt to $6.9 Trillion by 2018. I kept the budget from going bust until 2070+. I also tried to earn these badges: Efficient Government, Health + Wellness, Competitive Advantage. I succeeded in getting 1 of 3.

I kept the budget afloat till 2063 and got efficient government and almost pres. budget. Unfortunately, I basically cut everything.

I reduced the debt from 70.3% of GDP to 5305% of GDP
I delayed the budget Bust to 2070+
and shrank our federal Government :)

By adjusting taxes alone, I had a massive surplus, giving me the freedom to add favored programs back in. Budget bust in 2059, with badge for Health and Energy Independence, while shrinking the size of the government.

All about choices and priorities, I guess.

Although i wasn't quite able to win a badge (but i did get close) I was able to reduce the debt to 22.5% of GDP in 2019, i delayed the budget push to 2070+, and I shrank the size of the goverment to 21.3% of GDP in 2019.
Basically i just chose whatever would lessen our debt...

this is the thing that says how i did...it won't bust till 2061...which means right around the time i should be pushing up daisies.

Well the highlight of my night consisted of budget hero. It was a little hard to believe that a person can cut so much and get away with it!-So maybe a little unrealistic... But I was able to sucessfully get a badge for health (I believe? )and take America out of its debt. I would like to say- A job well done.
