Your Gov't News Update Late in the 2007 Session

Here are a couple of links to recent news out of our nation's capital regarding legislation, our budget, and the relations between our Democratic controlled Congress and our Republican President Bush.

House Sends President an Energy Bill To Sign-According to the article "The bill will raise fuel-efficiency standards for automobiles, order a massive increase in the use of biofuels and phase out sales of the ubiquitous incandescent light bulb popularized by Thomas Edison more than a century ago."
Go Green APLGers.

Iraq Funds Approved in Senate-The Senate last night approved a $555 billion spending bill to fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year, shortly after bowing to President Bush's demand for $70 billion in unrestricted funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Looks like no shut down for the federal gov't but a blank check for the President in the war on terror, it's all about compromise in gov't.

Mr. Thompson

I think that it will help our economy in the long run to switch over to the new fuel, but only if they go about it in the right way, and take it one step at a time. The budget thing is just confusing. Where does the unrestricted money fit into the $555 billion dollar budget for the fiscal year? Or is that completely separate? Those were just my first thoughts :D

I am very pleased to see that the energy was passed so resoundingly, but it makes me rather sad that the articles about larger breaks for solar and wind power companies were dropped. Biofuel only slows the rate that we deplete the Earth's natural resources, and I think that we should be researching and supporting completely renewable energy sources now, instead of waiting for someone else to make it profitable.

And Katie, as far as I understood it, the $70 billion for the war was part of the $555 billion, but the Democrats were voting against the whole bill because they objected the continued funding of the war.
