Happy New Year APLGers.

Hope you are all refreshed and rejuvenated as we head down the homestretch of APLG. We have a few items left to tackle involving the people (you) and politics. Within this unit, you need to find out where you fit. In adition to what we do in class, you need to go to one of the websites below and then follow the prompt beneath the websites listed.

The Political Spectrum
The Political Compass
Beyond Red and Blue
How Liberal or Conservative are you?

Take one of these (or more if curious) and then write a quick reflection of what you learned about yourself. Post should be done before class starts on January 11th.

Enjoy-Mr Thompson

60% liberal, 40% Conservative. I thought I was a bit more liberal than that.?

I also realized that I "would most likely shove your neighbors into ovens if the authorities told (me) to!"

What the heck.

Like I figured I'm pretty moderate, but a little bit more right leaning ;)

You Are 55% Conservative, 45% Liberal
Social Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

My compass says I'm mostly moderate, but I lean pro-government involvement on economics and anti-government involvement on social issues.

Apparently I am 55% liberal and 45% conservative. This is a little bit off but given the small sample size I would say that it is not a bad estimate. I found that for some of the questions, I did not agree with either answer so this could have skewed my results.

I ended up taking all four of these, and I still don't agree with the results. I find that the questions were worded unfairly, and many of the questions did not have a cut and dry answer.
But what one did say is: 70% conservative and 30% liberal. Which is kind of what I figured I was, but I still have some opinions left to formulate.

Jake...I feel uncomfortable as your neighbor.
The anarchist test said I'm a state-worshiping authoritarian; you probably vote Democrat or Republican along strict party lines. Semi-true.
On "How liberal or conservative are you" I guess I'm 50% conservative and 50% liberal, even though that quiz was terrible.
According to the "Beyond Red and Blue" I'm liberal.
It was way too easy to pick out the biased questions.

AHHHHHHHH it says that I'm 45% conservative and 55% liberal... this is weird!

I ended up on the lower left quadrant of the political compass.

I know where I stand on most issues, but when I try to apply that to the real world, I realize that my knowledge on where leaders stand isn't comprehensive enough for me to confidently support anyone yet.

Out of the tests I took, the "political compass" was probably the most accurate. I ended up fairly close to the center on everything, slightly liberal and slightly authoritarian. However, I would classify myself more as "confused". I have viewpoints on all four sides of the spectrum, and honestly don't know what I'd vote for. And apparently, I would shove my neighbors into an oven if the state told me to! /insidejoke/ Gladly, Mr. Wampfler! /insidejoke/

well i found out...

I must find an AA (Authoritarians Anonymous) and fast, does anyone know of one near here? I would most likely shove my neighbors into ovens if the authorities told me to! -i got a 16

Then i took another and came up with a very diffrent answer that i have ever gotten or ever expected to get...

You Are 40% Conservative, 60% Liberal

Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Ethics: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal

i was on the far end for the CONSERVATIVES in the class test. But the internet one didn't have very many questions so that could have messed it up.

I took the How Liberal or Conservative are you?..and got 100% Liberal.. I don't know if I agree with that completely..
I took the Political Compass one too and learned that my views are similar to Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, and The Dalai Lama. Sweet !

In the Beyond Red and Blue quiz I was given the title of a Conservative Democrat. For the "How Liberal or conservative are you?" quiz I got 60% Conservative and 40% Liberal as well as
Social Issues: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

I would say that this is a pretty good overview seeing how I dont really sway to one side on most issues.

Well I guess Gandhi and I can relate pretty well... I guess I am a little for communism with the love of anarchism!

But theres more.....
I am also a state worshipping authoritarian! Yay dictators!

I found these test show the extremes.. When I participated in the one in class I was in the middle.

At 10:03 PM, Anonymous SAM PUENT said...

Call me Gandhi.

According to the political Compass I am very much close with Gandhi.

I am very fine with this... Except for the fact that he and I are a little different...

I took the How Conservative or Liberal are you quiz and my results were:
30% Conservative, 70% Liberal
-Social Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
-Personal Responsibility: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
-Fiscal Issues: 0% Conservative, 100% Liberal
-Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
-Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

i sort of expected these results. i thought i would have been a little more in the middle though.

Just like the quiz we took in class i am a conservitive. 70% overall. Personal Responsibility: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal. People should learn how to take care of themselves and be less dependent on the government.

I am conservitive and apparently i am a little anarchists also (14)...

From the Liberal/Conservative quiz we took wednesday, i found out i was pretty liberal, but for this I'm 50:50. That's weird!!

I took the first and second link quizzes and they both told me I was a left-wing libertarian (although i was kind of offended by the "description" on the first quiz...)
I suppose that's true

I took the beyond red or blue quiz and my results were that I'm an Enterpriser.
Enterprisers, believe in the free enterprise system, make up 9% of the American public,Assertive on foreign policy, very little support for government help to the poor, Conservative.
Not to surprising i guess thats pretty much me.

At 10:23 AM, Anonymous Markl said...

So, I'm a half-anarchist, hitting exactly in the middle (13/25). But that's where the good news ends. Apparantly I'm also 30% conservative, 70% Liberal.

Political Spectrum: Get in AA (Authoritarians Anonymous) now!

You would most likely shove your neighbors into ovens if the authorities told you to!

I ended up in the left upper quadrant in the political compass

Beyond Red and Blue: Less extreme on moral beliefs than core Republican groups, but most oppose gay marriage and the acceptance of homosexuality, and support a more active role for government in protecting morality. No more conservative than the national average on other social issues such as abortion and stem-cell research. Most oppose the war in Iraq, but views of America’s overall foreign policy are mixed and they are less opposed to Bush’s assertive stance than are other Democratic groups.

Based on these results I can say that I am not ready to fully state that I belong to a certain political party or that I am conservative or liberal. My results vary from all the test I took in this unit. The main cause of the inconsistency of my results is that I am not fully informed on the issues, ideaology, and groups present in our society today. I need to expand my knowledge on different ideas and issues before I can make a statement on where I belong and I know that will come as I get older and become wiser through life experiences.

Ha so i took the first one and it said that "You're a state-worshipping authoritarian; you probably vote Democrat or Republican along strict party lines" which is funny because i never really pay attention to politics, and when i do i never completely agree with one party.
On most issues my personality is not really extreme and i've always lean more to moderation i think,
so thats probably why i scored this.

Oh hi, I took only the "Beyond Red and Blue" quiz because of its cool sounding name. I was an "Upbeat", a content citizen who generally fits my family's demographic. Interestingly, a high percentage of my group (32%) cites the Internet as their primary news source.
