Gates' Confirmation

Well, it started yesterday and ended yesterday. I have linked the results of the Senate confirmation hearing on Sec. Rumsfeld's successor. Curious to hear your opinions of why this confirmation was done without much fight since the Democrats made it no secret their dislike for Rumsfeld's policies in Iraq. With the Democrats poised to take control of Congress in January some thought this would be a prime opportunity to flex some of their new muscle. Also take note of who the 2 people were who voted against President's nomination and their reasoning why.

From Mrs. Krolak:
Sometimes people will vote for the lesser of two evils or in this case, the one evil, Rumsfield( as viewed by many. I believe the Democrats decided that it was better to just quickly get Rumsfield replaced for the remaining two years of Bush's term.
The two who voted against Gates were both Republicans who thought that Gates views on Iraq gave the wrong message to the troops. Here is a quote from a NPR artice which I will cite for you.

"Former CIA Director Robert Gates is almost certain to win confirmation quickly as the next defense secretary, if for no other reason than that he isn't Donald Rumsfeld."
