Most Important Issue:
Iraq- Bush Voters= 26%
Terrorism- Bush Voters= 86%

Is Iraq War a Part of Terrorism?
Yes- Bush Voters= 81%
No- Bush Voters= 11%

Interesting how Bush voters were not nearly as concerned with Iraq as they were with terrorism, yet they voted primarily yes that the Iraq War was a part of Terrorism.

In response to Tempest Pre-Reading: Very interesting reading. I regards to cannibalism the view seems justifiable in certain aspects and given those aspects those who would otherwise be considered barbaric are less so through juxtaposition. Through these examples nature is thus made to look better than the advances of man. Reading this made me think of the state of nature; a reoccuring theme in many of our readings so far.

I was surprised to see the upper class voted 56% Gore, 39% Bush.

i thought it was interesting how Montaigne thought that humans were getting cocky almost. They started thinking they could make things better than mother nature had. And that state of nature just like zelford was saying but its kind of an evovled form where its not one person against the world but groups against groups.

I think at times theres the right to cannibalism. Like when Caesar had besieged Alexia and they were forced to eat their own for the survival of the rest. But killing and eating prisoners after a war is just crazy and over the top.

I think my favorite line from Montaigne is "I am not sorry we note the barbarous horror of such an action, but grieved that prying so narrowly into their faults we are so blinded in ours." I agree it's barbarous and cruel to cannibalize prisoners after they're dead, but it's probably more cruel to torture them while they're still alive. The whole essay seems to me a long way of saying that Europeans are hypocritically barbaric.

To play the devil's advocate, I would say that Montaigne is incorrect in his comparison of the "civilized" human culture and "natural" human culture. While I agree with him that the culture created for the natives by nature itself is "pure," I do not believe that the ones that the humans have created is any less so. If the trees, the animals, the plants are parts of nature, then how so is man also not part of it? Thus, when this world is shaped by man, it is still being shaped by a force of nature. I think Montaigne could do with expanding his own views of nature, rather than have others expand their views of barbarism. In the sense of "savagery," however, I have to agree with him in that our perception of their improper lives is simply a function of our own paradigms (sorry, I used the word.) It is analogous to the perception that the people have in BNW of the Reservations. The reservations are what is natural to us, but by no means of comparison is natural to the Civilized World.

It's interesting that Kerry won the highest and the lowest education bracked but none of the ones in the middle.

I agree with the idea that art can never surpass nature. First, because I've never seen anything more beautiful then a sunrise at 10,000 feet, and second, I think that all art is is finding different ways of expressing what is already there.

I find it very interesting that Montaigne gave these people a fair chance in a socitey that have already ruled them outcasts. I also like the way he descrbes their culture in a way so it compares to their own. Finally, he also makes thier way of cannibalism more humane then first percieved by comparing it to their own society and then to other socities in the time period who use cannibalism for survival.

In response to Pre-reading.... I too agree with Montaigne in saying "I believe there is more barbarism...to roast him in pieces, to make dogs and swine to gnaw and tear him in mammocks...than to roast him and tear after him after he is dead." I agree with Amanda and others in that torture and for revenge and pleasure the act of cannibalism is wrong; but there are circumstances where it might be the only way to survive. I don't think I would ever in my life be able to, but I haven't been put in that situation. Anyway, I didn't really understand the line "And physicians fear not, in all kinds of compositions availful to our health, to make use of it..." What is that saying? In some research and things I've learned about cannibalism it can sometimes be bad for you (but don't quote me on that). Is that what Montaigne is saying?

I guess I could post again (3rd times a.. ) So I looked up more exit polls. These were in 2006 elections (not presidential but still interesting).. The issues are different and divided by D/P so, I thought it was cool.
