Budget Hero
Budget Hero Here is the website Mr. Decker showed us in class. Play around on it for a while sometime between now and next Friday(Dec. 5th). It would be an excellent way for us to end the week.... have a discussion about Budget Hero rather than write a paper about "Does the Budget need Balancing"?

I am proud to say that I earned the green badge and the efficient government badge, reduced debt by 7.3 percent, and delayed the bust to 2037...and gave everyone healthcare.
Ok, enough bragging...this was a fun post, I'm curious as to how accurate it is. Could we actually take these actions and "fix it"? If so, it's so logical, if it is actually possible, so why hasn't it happened?

This is hard! I succeed at all of my goals, (being green, energy independence, and competitive advantage) and pushed back my budget bust until 2050.
I reduced the debt from 11.1 Trillion in 2008 (49.6% of GDP) to 5.0 trillion in 2018 (22.3% of GDP). At the same time I also ended up reducing the size of the government.
I can say this much though, America's companies would hate me. I was very likely to increase the wealthy's taxes and make companies accountable for their pollution. Essentially I tried to tax in a way that it didn't cripple the wealthy, but allowed me to distribute more assistance to the lower and middle class. *shrugs* but I don't really know what they affects would be so who am I to say?
This was an interesting game to play. By just eliminating the Bush tax cuts and withdrawing troops from Iraq I was able to enact all the policies that I wanted, give everyone health insurance, earn three badges, reduce the size of the government, get rid of almost all the debt, and keep us from busting until after 2070! That's AMAZING! Just getting rid of those two things made such a huge difference...would this work in the real world?

I earned the health and wellness badge, the green badge, and the energy independence badge.
I reduced the debt to 25.4% of the GDP and the size of the government is at 20.3% of the GDP. The government has a surplus of $273billion. I delayed the budget bust to 2053 and provided health care for all(at least required it).
I offered some assistance to housing and living. I also provided funding to science and nature toward 'green' and energy independence. For taxes I repealed Bush's tax cuts, but taxed the rich and I cap and limit greenhouse gases. I noticed that a lot of money came into the 'budget' when I had the troops return and repealed Bush's tax cuts, but taxed the rich, which allowed for spending on other things of importance, such as healthcare, housing, global warming(energy independence/green).
It is likely that changing the taxes somewhat and bringing the troops home would allow for more space in the budget for other necessities and to also 'fix the budget'.
i saved the planet by increasing both environmental funding and funding clean energy research... i stopped the budget bust until 2070+ so i dont have a year they said "your kids are thanking you"
I earned the energy independence, national security, and efficient government badges while delaying the budget bust to 2070+. I reduced the debt as a percent of GDP by 33.8% and downsized the government by 1.8% or $400 million in 10 years. I was able to partial privatize social security, gradually bring the troops home, increase clean and alternative energy spending, add a bevy to school spending increases, help protect the environment, slightly expand health care coverage, and limit greenhouse gases.
