Sample Test Prompts

1. John Locke feels that the power to gov’t. is limited by the will of the people whereas Thomas Hobbes states the gov’t’s power is absolute. Explain what you believe would be Rousseau’s comments on the limits of government’s power.
2. Hobbes thought that man was inherently evil and there was little if no good in him. Locke on the other hand had a more optimistic view of man’s nature and thought he capable of doing good (governing for the good of the society). On who’s side would JJ Rousseau interject and why?
