Taxation provides income for the government. Weed should be legalized in all states because marijuana sales would generate a huge tax revenue.

The government needs to be mindful of the public health implications as well as economic expenditures when repealing bans on marijuana. Because of the controversial effects of marijuana for people under 21, marijuana should be legalized but actively discouraged or penalized for people under 21. Legalizing marijuana would also reduce unnecessary spending on law enforcement, allowing for more funding in medical research, public education/health safety awareness, rehabilitation facilities, counseling services, etc.

The government needs to focus more on our own economic problems instead of trying to fix everyone else's conflicts, however the United States also needs to have a limited involvement in the other countries due to the casualties of innocents and our own citizens.

With More States starting to go through the legalization process of marijuana it is important for the government to understand the negative side effects that come with it. The government should wait to spread the legalization until they can be sure of what the negative things that come with the process are and how negative they turn out to be.

Roohi Katarya - Frac Sand Mining

Mining the sand buried beneath the bluffs near the Mississippi River in SE Minnesota and western Wisconsin is now in high demand for the use of extracting natural gas. Frac sand mining may bring jobs and economic development, but the government should also keep in mind the negative affects it brings forward; human health should be the government's greater priority.

Military hardware and tactics should be reserved for the military. The militarization of our police forces leads to events like the Ferguson shooting and infringes upon the liberties of the people. Police do not need assault rifles and APCs to keep the peace; that should be reserved for soldiers fighting militants and terrorists who actually pose a threat to American citizens.

Minnesota, especially the southeast corner, has a large quantity of the silica sand that meets the strict requirements for use in oil production. Many people who live near the proposed areas of fracking are concerned about the known and unknown health and environmental risks. The Minnesota government should conduct all necessary tests before commiting to the mining proposal to protect the health of the people surrounding the mine and to protect the natural landscape of the state, which attracts innumeral tourists-- heavily relied upon contributors to the state's revenue.

After Russia's annexation of Crimea, Ukraine has been struggling against two of its own regions, Donetsk and Luhansk, which are likewise inclined towards autonomy. Western powers have been supporting Ukraine's new government against pro-Russian separatists as well as Russia itself. Rather than focusing all of their efforts on retaliating against the opposing side, Ukraine would do well to take action towards securing the safety of the countless civilians who have been caught in the crossfire, since a country has the responsibility to protect its own citizens.

Concerning the ISIS situation, if a power has the ability to prevent an injustice, it has a moral obligation to do so.

After the shooting of an African American teenager by a police officer, riots erupted and militarized police officers were sent in response. The government should not allow military grade weapons and armor to be in the hands of local police forces in order to ensure that there is a line between the army of the federal government and the local police. This will ensure that we maintain a strong central government as our founding fathers had intended.

In response to the recent, sudden resurgence of ISIS (formerly part of Al - Qaeda) in early 2014, governments of the world should take an active, united role in dispelling this barbaric group by blocking their influence on western media. This will be instrumental in stopping the flow of their hateful, gratuitous agenda worldwide and it will assist with lowering their morale. Additionally, world governments should still have a military presence in Iraq and Syria, but for the reason of helping Syria and Iraq destroy ISIS themselves so they don't rely on other countries to do it for them.

Because militarized law enforcement was called upon in Ferguson, the death of an African American young adult resulted from the incident. The class of weapons used by the officers are meant to be in the hands of the United States military dealing with conflicts outside of U.S boarders to ensure the safety of the American people from foreign powers, not federal law enforcement.

In regards to the militarized police officers deployed to quell the riots that erupted in Ferguson, Missouri after the shooting of an African American teenager, there exists the fact in which government exists to protect the people in society. This responsibility makes it unavoidable that order must be backed up with a certain degree of force. However, such security must be authorized only with appropriate and proportional measures, as well guided by truth and pursued with justice as the main principle.

Current immigration issues are being brought to the nations attention due to the fact that millions of unregistered immigrants are living in our country. The problem being that a large portion of the people coming through our southern borders are unaccompanied children rather then single men or families and we as a nation don't know how to solve the problem.

In reference to the current immigration problems of our country today, the United States needs to take a more severe plan of action when dealing with illegal immigrants trying to cross the boarder. These actions would include longer jail time and stiffer financial penalties, verse as being simply sent back to their country of origin where they can immediately try entering again.

In the current situation with ISIS it is easy to forget or simply block out the atrocities being committed half a world away. However, the government is an institution created to advance the interests of the populous as a whole, and the severe degradation of human beings, even those not part of the populous, warrants, in the interest of the people, a humanitarian action to curb the horrors being committed in the Middle East.

Marijuana should not be legalized in the United States because of the negative effect it can have on the youth of our country. Even if it is not available to those under a certain age, it still provides an easier opportunity to obtain for the abuse of it. Medical researchers are frequently developing breakthroughs that could replace the medical benefits of marijuana.

The Ferguson, Missouri riots are the cause of the shooting of Mike Brown by a police officer, which has made national news. The military should be used for the protection of our country not riots.

If the government continues to put focus on illegal immigrants already in the United States instead of investing time and money protecting us from people trying to cross the border, the problem will never be solved because the people crossing the border will just replace those we are focusing on that are already in the country.

With overall immigration on the rise in recent years, the U.S. government should be taking the necessary measures to reduce illegal immigration and improve border control. The government should also be actively promoting people to obtain citizenship through proper measures. Doing this in a nondiscriminatory manner would ensure equal rights among all citizens.

Regarding the issues surrounding ISIS, the government should execute only the decisions whose outcomes directly pertain to its nation's best interests. The extraneous problems resulting from ISIS's actions must be resolved by governing entities previously existing in the Middle East.

ISIS is an extreme Islamic fundamentalist group set on controlling the Middle East and the extermination of the United States. The destruction of ISIS is a necessary national responsibility of the US government, whose primary role is to protect our way of life. These problems are better dealt with on foreign soil rather than here in America.

The prohibition of the cannabis plant is absolutely ridiculous given the no known negative side effects of consuming it, the numerous curative effects, and the hundreds of industrial applications of its fibers. The ban of the cannabis plant originates from the early twentieth century with racism, fear, protection of corporate profits, and yellow journalism, all of which had nothing to do research or true facts in general. It is not acceptable for the united states government to ban a plant that is incredibly useful in both a pharmaceutical and industrial setting that would improve society as a whole.

On the issue of ISIS, any and all people taken and inducted by force, or kidnapped for ransom or warning, should have their freedom be the focus of the U.S. government and its militants. If possible, demands on the ISIS' part should not be met. If the American Military is indeed the most powerful, then let us display it in this act of freedom integrity and world-wide heroism.

The police are supposed to be there to protect the citizens. In Ferguson, that is not the case. Police there have high grade military weapons that they are using wrongly against the citizens trying to protest

Micheal Brown, an unarmed, African American youth was fatally shot six times by police officer Darren Wilson, despite the fact that autopsy reports have proven that Brown was on his knees when he was shot. Uprisings have resulted in Ferguson, Missouri and have been met with military strength retaliation from the police force that has led to the endangerment of peaceful protesters, uninvolved civilians and reporting news staff. It will be important in the months to come that the media stay persistent in covering this growing civil rights dispute in a clear, unbiased fashion so that the public may stay informed and so we may change the system of institutionalized racism and police brutality that allowed this tragedy to take place.

Frac sand mining yields reasonable amounts of oil at the cost of large quantities of water, and hazardous chemicals. These chemicals leak into nearby groundwater raising methane levels. While such operations provide jobs and oil, the government must also be mindful of the health concerns, and potential environmental risks that go along with them.

Marijuana is an extremely touchy subject, and to be honest I'm not sure why. It has the health hazards of cigarettes and the depressant effects of alcohol, yet both of these are legal. We should regulate and tax it throughout the country as we have in Colorado to bring in revenue at both the state and federal level.
