America's Place in the World 2005
A poll conducted recently by a polling organization and a Washington think tank provides some interesting insights into Americans feeling about foreign relations.
The poll, titled America’s Place in the World, is taken every four years as a collaborative effort between the Council on Foreign Relations and the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, a respected polling organization. This year’s results were released November 17th, 2005.

I hate being the first to post on the Blog subjects because everyone that does gets made fun of, but oh well. This survey proves a feeling I've had inside: America will go through another isolationist phase. After the War on Terror, which I think won't end until after PRESIDENT Bush's term is over, the next president will probably be an isolationist. America is tired of foreign politics and wants to sit on the couch and watch the news instead of make it. I think when this inevitably happens China and India will have an opportunity to become top World Powers. The US is like "Butter scraped over too much bread" (for all the LOTR fans). China and India are waiting like lions to pounch on the US when we decide to step aside as the leading world political nation. Check this Blog in 10 years and you will all see I'm right.
I think its really interesting that the main debate of pursuing US policies with foreign countries rests on whether we wish to remain the main superpower. The debate doesn't include how many innocent civilians we've killed in Iraq because we want them to have the human rights we call human rights by our standards of living, the debate also does not address the fact that our soldiers are trying to fight for our protection and a country's democracy that really isn't ours to give.....or is it? I think before the US decides to get involved they need to understand if they are helping becuase it is advantageous or because they really care.... about those (for example in Iraq who are asking for thier freedom), and will not pull out and isolate themsleves because they are "tired" of trying to help. Iraq is just an example but our isolationism phases do bring out the question for me regarding Iraq...can we just leave because it is now not our job becuase it isn't benefitting us ....and if we do stay....is it because we still want to be seen as "freedom providers" and the main super power keeping control of other countries? When is it okay to get involved in foreign relations?
