Pork Anyone?
I know I'm getting ahead of myself but this article presented itself and I had to forward it.
We will be diving into Congress the week after next and we spend time looking at our nation's budget, the deficit and our debt. We will introduce pork barrel spending and try and justify why it occurs.
For those of you that love money and taxes, here's an article that should get your blood pumping.

Go Congress!

Pork Barrel - Government funding of something that benefits a particular district, whose legislator thereby wins favor with local voters. This expression alludes to the fatness of pork, equated with political largesse since the mid-1800s.
Just to point out a few comments that stuck out towards me...
"...add $24 billion to the debt in unwanted and unnecessary pork-barrel projects."
"A $223 million bridge is to replace a 7-minute ferry ride between Ketchikan, Alaska, left, and Gravina Island. The island, right, has a population of 50."
Unless a minute of your time is worth about $32 million, this bridge is practically useless.
May I just add our national debt as of now is somewhere around $8,028,204,675,510.52... ahem.
Simply stunning...
However, I did read the rest of the article and I am glad there's still a slight hint of hope knowing that the senate is considering proposing an amendment to the legislation.
Also, Dubya passed the bill on Aug. 10th, not knowing how much this bill would cost and the tragic events of Katrina coming. So a little slack is cut.
I agree with the previous hottie. I also like that McCain opposed this legislation and I agree with him for the reasons he mentioned. McCain in '08! Anyways, I hate that Congressmen are spending so much money to boost support in their areas, I'm reminded of something Bush did at the last election I didn't like, promising illegal immigrants US citizenship, just another political move to win support. Bush shouldn't have done that, but he did what won him US support to win the election. Politics!
Another politican who racked up debt for us was Truman who officially declared US support for Israel, it has also been highly suspected he did this only to gain Jewish support in the upcoming election because there were more Jews in America than Arabs.
Don't believe me in the previous comment: Check out this for the amount of financial support we give them

"It would look as if Truman was angling for Jewish votes:It would look as if Truman was angling for Jewish votes" - a quote from http://www.csmonitor.com/2001/1026/p1s1-uspo.html about Truman's support of Israel.
