"Something you probably wish you didn't know"
Here is the website that can help you access incredible information about campaign finance and groups that contribute money to candidates. The amounts of money are mind boggling.
Wednesday's class I will reference this site and now you can go there and scout around. Check out your favorite candidates, favorite PACS, etc.

You should see how much Hillary Clinton has bankrolled already going into the 2006 election!!!!

An especially nice feature is the "Donor Name Lookup" and "Donor Zip Lookup" You can certainly find out a lot about your neighbors. . .
Another similar site is http://www.opensecrets.org/ which also has those data on those newest rascals, the 527s.
For Minnesota races (including the ones in Rochester), try http://www.cfboard.state.mn.us/ -- click "Searchable Database" under "Information Resources." This has a lower threshold of $100 to be included.
Implications of having this information available, anyone?

After looking at the site in class and a little bit just now, I still find it hard to believe that that much money was spent (and donated) on campaigning for an election. That money could have gone for better causes such as giving it to cancer research centers or helping homeless people. It's frustrating to think of all that money going towards a campaign when there are better uses for it, but that's just what I think.

Something i just happened to notice. For the 2005-2006 cycle, PACs have donated more money to republicans in every group except for law and organized labor. I'm not quite sure what that means, but i thought it was kind of interesting.
